About Us We have found that the commonly-held approach to service, which creates a separation between the helper and the helped, has little to offer to the long term well-being of either party. On the COVER job site, we strive to close that gap by fostering opportunities for fellowship and collaboration between the volunteers and the residents. A volunteer project site, where serving lunch, cutting lumber, driving nails and initiating conversation are equally significant contributions, is particularly well-suited for facilitating connections between people of diverse backgrounds. A note on COVER's philosophy Although the Home Repair and Reuse Programs are COVER's platform and introduction, it is worth noticing that the word "through" in our mission statement makes these statements less important than the broader goal of building community. Through our work we strive to bridge a gap between sectors of the population that are often separated. We value a non-hierarchical ethic of service that views those who are donating time, money or materials and those who are being assisted by the program to be equal participants and collaborators within the service activity. We view service as fundamentally a process of exchange in which each party offers something of great value to the lives of the other. Much of this offering has to do with opening, welcoming and accepting. Board -- Our Board is comprised of a good spectrum of Upper Valley citizens, professionals, volunteers and homeowners.
