1: The repair must be urgently needed. Eligible projects must address urgently needed repairs to a residence, that is it will restore the basic function of the home, the occupant's ability to carry on their regular routines or prevent further damage to the home.
2: The project is within 45-minutes of White River Junction, Vermont. This calculation can vary so when in doubt please don't hesitate to contact us.
3: The project must be appropriate for a volunteer crew. This excludes trade work such as plumbing, electrical work and furnace installation or work needing heavy equipment.
4: The homeowner must be willing to participate. This can take place by working with the volunteers, recruiting friends to help, or preparing lunch or a snack for the crew. We ask that homeowners contribute towards the cost of materials according to a sliding scale based on the homeowner's income, adjusted based on expenses and circumstances. Again, please don't hesitate to ask.
5: The household income must be at or below 180% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Homeowners can be granted a variance on this criteria based on demonstration of significant monthly expenses such as medical or mortgage costs. 180% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines are:
Household size and monthly/yearly income per person
1) 1,397 / 16,758
2) 1,874 / 22,482
3) 2,351 / 28,206
4) 2,828 / 33,930
5) 3,305 / 39,654
6) 3,782 / 45,378
7) 4,259 / 51,102
8) 4,736 / 56,826
Projects don't always satisfy all five criteria. Projects that do not satisfy all five criteria may be selected if a particular need is demonstrated.
